A beard and moustache transplant moves fine follicles from the nape of the neck into sparse or empty areas of the face. Beard hairs leave the skin at a different, much shallower angle than scalp hair, so the placement angle is narrower than in a hair transplant. The cheeks, jawline, sideburns and moustache area are each planned separately. It is used for gaps caused by scarring, burns or genetic thinning.

Recovery timeline

Frequently asked questions
Will the transplanted beard look natural?
Naturalness comes from angle and hair calibre, not graft count. Single-hair, fine follicles are chosen from the nape and placed at the shallow angle beard hair follows. A beard placed at the wrong angle looks wrong regardless of how many grafts were used.
When can I shave?
Trimming with scissors is usually possible from week three and a razor from around month two, once the skin has fully settled. Your own timeline is confirmed at the follow-up.
How many grafts does a beard need?
It depends on the area: a moustache may need a few hundred, full cheek and jaw coverage considerably more. The figure is set after the face is measured, not from a photograph alone.
Does beard hair keep the character of scalp hair?
Largely yes. Follicles taken from the nape keep their own growth rate and texture, so the transplanted area may need trimming more often than the rest of the beard.
