Sapphire FUE is a hair transplant method in which follicles are harvested one by one from the back and sides of the scalp and placed into micro channels opened with sapphire-tipped blades. Because a sapphire tip leaves a finer, smoother incision than steel, channels can be opened closer together. That allows denser coverage of a wide area in a single session. The method is preferred when the hairline and the crown have receded together.

Suitable candidates
- Patients whose hairline and crown have receded together and who need a wide area covered
- Men in the Norwood 3–6 range with sufficient donor density
- Plans aiming for a high graft count in a single session
- Patients who wear their hair short or do not mind it being shaved
When it is not appropriate
- Young patients whose loss is still progressing rapidly with limited donor capacity — medical management comes first
- Uncontrolled diabetes, bleeding disorders or an active scalp infection
- Patients whose blood thinners cannot be adjusted under physician guidance
- Patients whose expectations exceed what the donor area can supply

Assessment and design
The hairline is drawn to your facial proportions and donor capacity is measured.

Graft harvesting
Follicles are taken one by one with a micromotor, keeping the root intact.

Micro channels are opened with sapphire tips, reducing swelling and crusting.

Grafts are placed following the natural exit angle and direction.
Recovery timeline
- Days 1–3
- Swelling may move from the forehead to the eye area. The first wash is done at the clinic.
- Week 1
- Crusting begins. Crusts are softened, never picked.
- Weeks 2–4
- Shock loss. Transplanted hairs shed while the follicles stay in place.
- Months 3–6
- New growth appears, fine and pale at first, thickening afterwards.
- Months 12–18
- The result matures; thick or wavy hair takes longest.
Frequently asked questions
What does the sapphire tip actually change?
It changes the shape of the channel, not the graft. A finer, smoother incision means less tissue trauma, so channels can sit closer together and swelling and crusting are usually reduced. It does not increase the number of grafts your donor area can supply.
How many grafts can be done in one session?
That is decided by donor density, not by the technique. Most single-session plans fall between 3,000 and 5,000 grafts. Good planning always stays below donor capacity so a second session remains possible.
Does the whole head need to be shaved?
For Sapphire FUE the donor area is shaved and, in most wide-coverage plans, the recipient area too. If shaving is not acceptable to you, the no-shave DHI protocol is discussed instead.
When do the transplanted hairs start to grow?
The transplanted hairs shed in weeks two to four. Real growth begins around month three and becomes visible from month six. The final assessment is made at month twelve.
